48hours of non stop eating good food in Malacca (Melaka) -

1) Jonker Desert 88 aka "The Museum Cafe"

This restaurant is a cultural entity in form of museum cafĂ©, legally formed on 1997 in Malaysia. It is famous for its “Baba Chendol” with 8 ingredients or durian, called “Baba Durian Chendol”, “Baba Ice Kacang”. “Nyonya Asam Laksa”, “Baba Laksa”, “Baba Sea Food Laksa”, “Baba Chicken Laksa”, “Baba Goreng-Goreng” & etc. We went there at 9pm and their Baba Durian Cendol were sold out and we decided to go there again the next day after lunch. It's a MUST TRY durian cendol there and we do not want to miss it!

The taste of 100% pure Gula Melaka (brown sugar) on the shaved ice and durian paste were totally awesome!!! It's a must try!

We had this too but it's just normal mee soup with big tauhu with fish meat, fu chuk (chinese beancurd skin), big fish balls.

    2) Durian Cottage

It's a new shop, just opened on the 31st of January 2013. This shop is highly recommended to all durian lovers.

We had durian bomb. Just as it's name sound like, it's really a bomb, the first bite you bite it. Crispy rice crisp coating on the outside and fragrant durian paste on the inside.

We also had Daifuku. It has white pale snow-skin on the outside, robust 100% musang king durian filling on the inside. It's their best-seller! As we all know, musang king durian is one of the best and expensive type of durian. So obviously, this Daifuku was awesome!

Besides that, my favourite food are ice-creams and cakes. So how can I not eat ice-cream since they are selling durian gelato there. Their durian gelato ice-cream is made from 100% pure durian paste blended into 100% fresh milk (no water added) to produce the smoothest, creamiest and richest ice-cream I have ever tasted. It's RM5 per cup. But trust me, it's extremely good! Really the best of the best!

    3) Capitol Satay Celup

People always say, a visit to Malacca is never complete until you have tasted the famous satay celup. I had searched and asked around people I know, whether which restaurant serves the best satay celup in Malacca, and most of them praised the famous Capitol Satay Celup. So we decided to give a try!

We reached there at 11pm and surprisingly there were a lot of late night suppers! And we were so lucky that the queue wasn't that long but still, we had to wait for about 10minutes. We walked over from the Jonker Street and I think it's better to do so because hardly can find parking there.

One good thing about this restaurant is that, they prepare a variety of food. Even though, it was supper for us, we ate like as though we did not take breakfast and lunch for that day!
80sen for each stick, for all types of food.

                                                                         Free cucumber
What I took was this. The one I love most was the quite big, juicy prawn. It was super sweet!!!

An important factor that everyone should try this is the peanut sauce because the peanut sauce is really nicely blended. The sauce is constantly boiled and the waiter will constantly go from table to table to make sure that the sauce stays at the satisfying level of thickness throughout our meal. He blended the sauce with sufficient amount of savours and peanuts. The sauce is replaced for each new customer. It's a huge pot of sauce! Even so, they do not reuse the sauce. That's the good part of it!

Will definitively visit this place again!

    4) Kedai Kopi Chung Wah

The restaurant itself is quite big. Even so, look at the queue outside. We had to queue with umbrella outside, or else, will definitely exposed to too much of UV ray.

The menu for this restaurant is only steam chicken with different portion and also rice balls. Simple enough, for those indecisive people like me. The rice is shaped into a lump of ball, about 3cm in diameter. Looking at the lump of rice ball, people might think that they put a lot of water to cook the rice, making it seems lumpy and sticky. However, you might be amazed because it is actually  really soft , fluffy and aromatic with a light hint of ginger. You can actually just eat it like that without putting chilli and still taste great! But if you are a chilli lover, the rice and chicken are perfectly complemented by the chilli with vinegar sauce. Each person is given five balls per portion

The chicken must be dipped into the sauce to taste better. It's not bad to me, though I think Ipoh's famous Lou Wong Restaurant is still way better than Melaka. But this place is worth trying for. There are 3 very famous chicken rice ball in Melaka, namely, Famous Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant, Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Restaurant and also Chung Wah Restaurant. And lots people say Chung Wah is the best!

    5) Baba Charlie Lee ( Nyonya kuih)

Nyonya kuih is very famous in Melaka and I personally love kuih a lot, and tried lots of variety before. Nyonya kuih can be called as Nyonya cakes. Out of all the kuihs I've tried, I highly recommend Baba Charlie Lee's nyonya kuih. Actually this place is operated in the traditional wooden house, located in the tiny alley which is opposite the Masjid Tengkera (mosque) along the Jalan Tengkera of Malacca. It's not really easy to find this place but there's road signs along the way.

Look at the beautiful colours of those kuihs.... Aww.... In love instantly =)
Their recipe has been around for over 2 decades. It was all started with their small business at the night market over 20 years ago. Their hard work and authenticity paid off with business expanding, now being a major supply to restaurants, hotels & even events. It was a great experience being able to take a stroll around the house through the kitchen of Charlie Lee.

We didn't buy that many because we are super full after non stop eating for the entire afternoon. So far, those we bought were awesome especially their onde-onde. Super duper nice. You must put the entire thing into your mouth because the gula melaka(brown sugar) will burst in your mouth after biting it. So juicy and sweet. Slurp!!!

    6) Nadeje (Cake shop)

Just like other restaurants we went to, we had to line up for our turn. Though it's a cake shop, I think it's not advisable to take your own sweet time and chit chat because plenty of people are waiting outside for seats.

These were the cakes we ordered. I think the best was the original crepe cake. If you are not a fan of trying out different kind of flavour type of person, you should really go for this. It tasted really good, original and will not get bored of it. Praline lover crepe cake was not bad too. It is made up of hazelnut paste and caramelised hazelnuts. Tiramisu crepe cake was nothing special for me and I dislike the rum and raisin crepe cake. Taste weird on cakes, though I love rum and raisin gelato. Somehow it does not blend in the cake. Some of the cakes are alcoholic. But it is stated at the menu. So for those people who cannot take alcohol must beware ya. Why is this cake shop so famous is that the crepe layers are soft and not too rubbery. The cream texture in between the layers were just nice to hold its shape, neither too hard or too wobbly. Really super nice since it's my first time eating. I must say I felt in love with the cakes there.

    7) Restoran Satay Xiang Ji

This is another satay restaurant but it's not satay celup this time. It's normal BBQ style satay. It's famous for it's pork satay =) We were a little doubtful to enter at first because it was not as crowded as we thought it would be. But since we were there already, let's just EAT!

There was only one person who BBQ the satays and I think he is quite old, about 70? Not bad, looking quite healthy =)

We only ordered 20 for 4 person at first. However, we ended up eating 50 sticks! The pork satay was really delicious. It was well marinated with it's own secret recipe and the heat from the barbecue melted the lard and moisten the pork. The oil slowly fried the meat on it's outer layer untill crisp generated a slightly burnt aroma along with the fragrant smell of pork. It was totally AWESOME!!! You do not even need to deep it into the sauce to taste good. The chicken satay was not bad also. However, each stick was pretty small, that's why I can eat so much!

The peanut sauce is different from the normal peanut sauce. Pineapples are added in the cooking process, resulting in a tangier, sweeter gravy. Slurp!!! Each satay was 70sen. It was used to be 40sen then 55sen and now 70sen.

    8) Restoran Makko

Before we went back to KL, we stopped by at Restoran Makko for Nyonya food. We tried Restoran Ole Sayang last time and I thought it was not bad. So we decided to try out new place for nice nyonya food and we found Restoran Makko which is highly recommended by others.

That's what we ordered. Mix vegetables, sambal sotong, chicken ponteh and beef rendang. All seems so red and brown. LOL... The food seemed to be very spicy but they were not. The vegetables were fine and sambal sotong was a bit hard (overcooked?). The chicken ponteh was nice and it was obviously cooked for a long time because the chicken was really soft and that's why this dish had really strong chicken taste! However I don't really like their beef rendang. The beef wasn't soft enough. Overall, this restaurant is not bad.
